Leopard Creek is approximately three hours north-east of Johannesburg by car on the border of the Kruger National Park and is widely regarded as one of the best courses in South Africa. The course is home to an array of South Africa’s spectacular wildlife including hippos, crocodiles and, of course, the leopard from which the course takes its name. Each hole at the Leopard Creek complex features a statue made from pure copper honouring the big cat. Across the 18 holes, each statue tells the story of a day in the life of the leopard.

The Alfred Dunhill was the first tournament of the season for many of the graduates from the recent European Tour Q-School. Within this crop of players were a number of new Titleist staff players looking to make a flying start to their 2009 European Tour season.
As always, the Titleist Tour Representatives have been working on the equipment needs of a number of Titleist staff players and, with so many new faces on Tour this week, the team has been placing plenty of orders.
Young Scotsman Callum Macaulay who has been using 905R and 906F4 had his first look at the 909 metals and immediately ordered a few options to try in the weeks ahead. Callum also took the opportunity to order a couple of back-up Vokey wedges and a new Scotty Cameron head cover. He’s ordered a black Studio Select cover with red dots….very classy!!
An exciting addition to the Titleist team is young Argentine Estanislao Goya, nicknamed ”Tano”. He was in good spirits this week and looking forward to his first European Tour start since progressing from the 2008 Challenge Tour. Tano is another player to have been impressed by the 909 metals and is eagerly awaiting a couple of 909 fairways and a 19° 909H to test. Keep your eyes open for Tano this season.

Another player looking at the 909 metals was 23-year old Austrian Bernd Wiesberger. Bernd is currently using a 906F2 15° but is looking forward to testing the 909F3 15°. Bernd’s first event on the 2009 European Tour was punctuated by an excellent opening round of 68 (-4) which helped to ensure he played all four rounds of the event. Bernd will be looking to build on this solid start over the coming weeks.

Full line Titleist player Paul Waring has been testing the 909D3 8.5°, but felt that it might be flying a little too low for the early season tournaments in South Africa and the Middle East. To combat this and provide Paul with the higher flight that he is looking for he’s ordered the 9.5° version. Paul has also been waxing lyrical about the 909F3 fairway following his recent switch and, while speaking to the team about his driver took the opportunity to order the matching 909F3 18°.

This week the European Tour heads to Capetown for the South African Open at Pearl Valley. This is the last European Tour event before Christmas and a number of Titleist ambassadors, such as Rory McIlroy, Robert Dinwiddie and Paul Waring will be looking for an early present by claiming the lion’s share of the €1.1 million purse on offer.
